Whenever i used to go to the dentist he would always make me wear really stupid sunglasses. It's not like there was any reasoning behind it at all (altohugh i never asked), and it's not like they were just some old thing he had lying around, it was a different pair every time i went. He obviously put quite a bit of thought into the joke, the Sick Arse.
I think he only did it to prove to himself, as a Dentist, just how much power he had to make ANYBODY do ANYTHING.
